Accounting and Invoicing:

Quickbooks online is one of the first and best investments we made for the business. Depending on which plan you get with Quickbooks, you can track your time, your subcontractor’s time, send and track invoices, estimates, and accept payments.

They have a credit card option through their merchant services or you can set up payments with Stripe and Paypal Business (which is only $.50 per transaction instead of a percentage)  You can get a 30-day free trial and then Simple start is only $10 a month. Self- Employed QB is only $5.

When you’re just starting out and don’t have tons of money to buy every little convenience to help your business then Wave is a free solution!

The downfall is that customer support is via email only. However, other than that you get the basic benefits and ability to send invoices, track expenses, run reports, and view your profits and losses. This is perfect for starting out.

Paypal invoicing is another great place to start for free invoicing. If you already have a PayPal account you will be able to start right away. You can customize templates and send invoices to your clients where they can pay online through Paypal.

Pros: There are no startup costs, termination fees, or monthly payments.

Cons: There is a small transaction fee as well as a percentage of the invoice.

If you charge more than $100 you have to wait 21 days to receive payments.

Contract Signing

HelloSign is an easy free online signature tool that allows you to send 3 documents a month. It is completely integrated with Google Apps, so one can sign a contract while never leaving Gmail. This is great for if you plan on having contractors work with you and you need a 1099 from them or other agreements. We very rarely have needed to worry about online signatures so this is not a top priority for us.

DocuSign allows you to send and sign documents online. It runs $10 a month vs. Hellosign which is a free option but has added features that might be relevant to your business.
